The Sonic Eye in Venice

On the occasion of the preview days of the 2019 Venice Biennale, Spazio Maiocchi—Milan’s cultural center co-founded by Carhartt WIP and Slam Jam—reaffirms its commitment to the support of contemporary art and culture, by presenting a special three-day pop-up club curated by KALEIDOSCOPE and powered by The Vinyl Factory.

Held in a secret location in the heart of the Laguna, the members-only hangout featured a program of artists’ contributions and live performances, while also celebrating the drop of KALEIDOSCOPE’s newest issue.

The Venice event was the kickoff of THE SONIC EYE, a cultural initiative dedicated to experimental practices at the intersection of contemporary art and sound that will inform the program of Spazio Maiocchi for the next season (FW 2019/SS 2020) through a series of performances, solo exhibitions, and artist residencies. Spotlighting the increasing overlap and interplay between these liminal fields across the work of a new generation of artists, the project opens up a hybrid space for intermedia experimentation.

In the framework of the Venice Biennale, exclusive visuals and artist cameos accompanied live performances by Warp Records affiliates Aaron David Ross (American, b. 1985), Lorenzo Senni (Italian, b. 1983) and Evian Christ (British, b. 1989).

Access to the club was granted only to holders of a special card designed by Estonian artist Katja Novistskova.
