In March 2016, enclosed to Issue #3 of KALEIDOSCOPE Asia, we published a 16-page supplement commissioned by Gillman Barracks, a contemporary cluster in Singapore jointly developed by the National Arts Council (NAC), Singapore Economic Development Board (EBD), and the JTC Corporation (JTC).

Often compared to fine art clusters like 798 in Beijing and New York art districts Chelsea and Soho, Gillman Barracks hosts eleven galleries: ARNDT, FOST, Mizuma, Ota Fine Arts, Partners & Mucciaccia, Pearl Lam, ShanghART, Sullivan + Strumpf, Sundaram Tagore, Yavuz and Yeo Workshop; the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore; and educational organizations Art Outreach and Playeum.

Part of an ongoing collaboration with Gillman Barracks, the supplement, edited by KALEIDOSCOPE Asia’s Editor-at-Large Melanie Pocock and enriched by a specially-commissioned photo shoot by Zakaria Zainal, featured contributions by five tenants and four Singapore-based arts professionals discussing the relevance of the precinct internationally and locally, and its possible future.
